I've applied for classes, though I may need to shuffle them around. Probably will take Spanish instead of Japanese if it's still available - it should have been my third choice (after ASL and Mandarin) for foreign language, and it was one of the few with an introductory course. Probably taking basic Computer Science as well - I love working with fiddly logic bits.

My culinary training is, in retrospect, awesome. A great deal of time was spent in France figuring out logical food science and procedures; because of that, I can improvise well with my training. I had flour, butter, chicken broth, onions and curry powder - and from that I could make a pretty good mild curry. Had couscous on the side, then my training suggested to me that if fried rice is good, that fried cous-cous might also be good. TL;DR: it was. If you ever have leftover cous-cous, make fried cous-cous. Your taste buds will thank you. At this point it's not enough to get me a job as a cook, of course, but it is enough for home economics and eating well for cheap.

I turned in an application for a job at a dollar store down the street, which was oddly satsifying. I have a fair crack at getting the job, too - I was a pretty good cashier back at Tacone some four years ago, and my brother's friend and my sort-of-friend Yessenia works there and is willing to recommend me. It's good to finally GET OHN WITH IT after spending six years as Hisao Nakai depressed and unable to act around my disabilites and mental illness.

My rewrites of the Bliss Stage VN scenes are good; the characters are a lot more gritty and earthy and pragmatic this go round without being any less cheerful, hopeful and idealistic. I especially like my Ruthless-If-Pressed version of Sara Smith and my Not An Asshole version of Keenan Caine this go round. Also, the VN's Joshua Preston is pretty much the opposite of a moron this go round. I'm really enjoying my dialog exercises with these guys - most of it's going in the VN.

And how are you?

Crossposted from Ben Lehman's LJ:

"Hi everyone.

From now until Sunday midnight, I’ll donate all profits from PDF sales on my website (which is basically the amount you paid) to Haitian earthquake recovery organizations. Additionally, I will donate $5 from each copy of Drifter’s Escape. So if you’ve been thinking about buying Polaris or Bliss Stage, now’s a great time. For this to work, you have to buy directly from my website not from IPR.

If you have already donated $10 or more, send me a receipt and I’ll send you a free PDF.

I’d also take suggestions for organizations to donate to."

If any of you have been meaning to pick up Bliss Stage, Polaris, or Drifters Escape, now's the time.

XXXXtreme Street Luge (The Game That's Like Vin Deisel) is fine too.

Note. My comments are silly.

I'm practicing sprite-work with Pixen. Now that I've figured out how to actually make them big enough to be useful, here they are. I would much appreciate your harshest critique.

Ewen Cluney apparently read the petition I started on RPG.net (@ http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=470349), and this is his response:

So, right now I'm immersed in working on Slime Story and another SEEKRIT PROJECT that I'm immensely excited about but can't talk about AT ALL.

I will think about sitting down to fix up Hikikomori (which is, after all, a 24-hour RPG and was never playtested), since people seem to actually like it. I don't know when I'll get around to it, but having written and then largely forgotten about it in 2006, I'm going to have to thoroughly re-read it and play it several times over, something my brain isn't really up to right now. In the meantime, please feel free to post or PM any specific observations/suggestions you have about the game.

Regardless, thank you all for your support. :) "

If you have a vested interest in this game, then do post your playtest reports.

If Akira says that I'm a good artist, and that this is a good picture, I'm not going to contradict him. I've been trying my hand at character design today, and, well... Say hello to Mio.

I spent all of four hours getting the pose right... she's going to be the main character in a ren-ai I'm making. Classic tsundere, but she has her reasons... slowly coming out of her shell from a painful childhood.

I have a few other designs, but they aren't as good.

After that I had lunch and I went out afterwards to get some Copic markers; I'm... not as good at color, but those are the right tools for the job, right? It was fun going through the aisles. I couldn't afford a lot, so I got like ten and a new thin pen. 0.7? That sounds right.

I ran into my sister there; she was surprised to see me. Shocked, actually; I told her I was doing some drawing. She wasn't happy about why, but she did tell me to keep at it.

I called Akira and asked him if he wanted to see my sketches and talk tomorrow. He does. He... also wants to take me to lunch. Eep. Good eep but eep.

When I went home, I went online to the site where I got most of the good freebie games from. It's been helpful: a lot of people think that the story is a good one, and have offered good suggestions, and some help programming. It doesn't need as much math as I was afraid of.

Tomorrow, what I'm afraid is a date and more design and scripting. I haven't felt this good in a long time.

The positive feedback loop of Hope Hope Rescuer Obsessions and Hope continues apace. Now, she will have her time eaten by programming and art rather than by playing games until her thumb falls off. It's a start.

The art is from the Deviant Art of one Goldsickle, who I found randomly for this post, but is awesome and you should visit.

NO THIS IS NOT HOW I GOT INTO RENPY GAMES HURF DURF. She certainly isn't going to http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewforum.php?f=4 because the forum she's going to is JAPANESE. Clearly.

...I don't... I don't know what to say. I don't know where to begin.

Tokho's apparently reading over my shoulder, because she just told me "At the beginning. Duh."

When I woke up, I decided that I really did want to meet with Akira today, but I also wanted to try Gakuen Dream. But... I know how I get. If a story is really interesting, it's hard for me to pull away. Tokho suggested that I call my sister Makoto. "Mackie would relish the chance to rip you bodily from the computer," she said with a grin.

I really don't like Makoto. She doesn't like me much, either: says I'm in a fantasy world and that ren-ai games are pieces of crap.

I'll cop to the former, but honestly - has she MET most of the creeps in the real world? In a ren-ai game, you at least have a chance at love.

So I told myself...

Anyway. I called her, and asked her in the middle of her rant on that subject to help me get off the computer at two so I could meet Akira.

"Willingly meeting a human being. Will wonders never cease," she said.

"That's not fair!"

"Yes, it is."

"I beg you for help and this is how you treat me?"

She got all quiet. "...you're serious."

"...I'll be over at 2."

She was good as her word. Before I knew it (or got to the Keenan ending of Visual Stage), my computer turned off. I looked up and Mackie, in that hideous skanky halter top of hers, was holding the plug to my power strip. I gave her a sheepish grin and she marched me to my closet and made me "presentable." The only thing I really had that looked good was an old uniform bottom and an Archer t-shirt, which... didn't make her happy. But she did help.

When I thanked her, she said "What I want in return is for you to keep meeting this person and have a REAL relationship, do I make myself clear?" I nodded. "Now get out of here."

When I left, I saw her climb onto some sleazeball's motorcycle and wrap herself around him. Ecch.

Akira was right there at the coffeeshop, and he got me a drink. Something with a lot of sugar and milk, you know? He talked to me about some of the art he was doing - he was doing some composition and sketching stuff. Interesting stuff. I said that I wasn't that good of an artist and I showed him some sketches, mostly of Tokho and her friends.

He looked at them for a long time with a strange expression. "Did you trace these?"

"Um... no. I was copying..."

He looked for a while, then smiled and said, "This is really good."

For all I know, a bug flew in my mouth, it was open so wide.

"These are characters from a ren-ai, right?"

I nodded. He said, "Have you thought of drawing your own?"

"I - I haven't been in love, I couldn't do it right."

Then he put a hand on mine, and I FROZE, both at that and his words.

"It's not too late to try again."

I... I kind of spazzed, there. We talked a little more, but I wasn't in any state to say anything.

I went home and by way of not thinking about it until I needed to got the Keenan, Josh and Nathan endings to VS. Twice.

Tokho prodded me until I told her what happened, and she just... smiled, and said: "Go. For. It."

...I'm so happy right now, you don't even know.

Earlier, I managed to wipe out the Ren-Ai obsession when I forgot to play it right. It bothers me that it only takes a margin of 8 points to do it: I'd expect it to lower it a die or two, possibly 1 die plus some Hope. It does bother me, and I'm going to bug Ewen Cluney to revise this game.

Still, this is awesome so far. Tune in tomorrow.

I will be playing and posting fictional snippets using the rules of Hikkomori, found here: http://dsg.neko-machi.com/hikikomori.pdf - first off it's a game by Ewen "Neko Ewen" Cluney, and second it looks awesome.

Those will be behind cuts. Tune in tomorrow for the first one.
