And Now For Something Completely Different
Nov. 6th, 2009 08:33 am( Life is Bliss and then you don't care )
Financial Aid decided to compromise; given my shitty academic track record, they were unwilling to give me the money now... but they ARE willing to give it to me when I get my grades, so long as I get at least all C's. That shouldn't be hard at all; and then I have $6000 for then and next semester.
Doesn't help with Teh Moneyz now, but I was planning on seeking Employment anyway.
There are movies I would like to see, now.
( Assuming you care. )

Taking advanced cooking classes at Laney at the moment, and looking for a new job.
I very badly want to run Bliss Stage for friends of mine, including my LJ friends - what are good days and times to do so? Or for general mucking about. I want to see Waltz With Bashir, among other things, and would rather do so with friends.
Oh, and shameless plug moment: Dad, in case you didn't know, works for Greater Good magazine - a magazine about the psychology and neurology of ethical behavior. Reporting on groundbreaking reasearch on why people are good, essentially - our emotional wiring, trust, and so on. You should check it out.

Class was fun today - we're starting a courseload on meat fabrication, prep and cookery. We made a cure for a pork loin, which is brining overnight as we speak.
Yesterday, took a personal day so I could do my catering gig @ a party in San Jose's museum of art. Mostly we assembled appetizers. ...I had to dot a coin-sized corn pudding with chili cream sauce and a little "cilantro pearl," animpractical beautiful ball of cilantro in a small sphere held together with savory jelly.
(Should Be A Movie) trailer script for Kare Kano below the cut.
THIS MOVIE IS RATED PG-13 FOR ROMANCE, SOME SEXUAL REFERENCES AND COMIC MISCHIEF
( She had a 'perfect' life... until he came along and taught her that perfection wasn't everything. )
This one is made all the sweeter with the existences of asecret very overt admirer at my school. Hee.
Try to guess next week's with only this tagline:
"Only he has the guts to woo beautiful monsters and endure terrible princesses."

Sweet fucking Christ being paradropped in on Captain Planet's back, watch WALL-e!
It smacks you in the face with it's message of good stewardship in the earth and the dangers of conformity, but Christ, they do it so well I don't care. And it needed to be said, in this way, anyway.
Saying that it's essentially a romance shouldn't, I hope, be a spoiler. EVE is a wonderful foil for WALL-e, and manages to be more expressive than most actors with a vocabulary limited to:
- "Directive!"
- "Classified."
- "Designation?"
- "EVE."
- "WALL-E!!"
- ...and a Big "NOOOO~!"
And, yes, EVE is the aforementioned tsundere with a BFG 9000.
( Spoilers )
Wow, wow. Just wow. I cannot recommend this film highly enough. Okay, so it's about as subtle as a plasma cannon to the gonads, but it's handled very well.

Just because I couldn't cram the entire plot of TTGL into one trailer, and no one could make it into one movie without a repeat performance of Dune. And no one wants that.
Smashing Through Heaven's Door was relatively spoiler free. However, the trailer for TTGL 2: Liberate Me From Hell is so very, very spoilerriffic that if you haven't seen the post-timeskip eps, you shouldn't read this. Unless you like being spoiled.
THIS TRAILER HAS BEEN RATED PG 13 FOR Fantasy Violence, Horrific Imagery, Romance, Crude Sexual Humor and Comic Mischief.

( TTGL 2: Liberate Me From Hell. 'A movie series so epic it crams a trilogy's worth of badass into two films.' )
Try to guess what I'm posting next Wendesday, just from the tagline:
"She was the perfect student. Perfect grades. Perfect looks. Perfect friends. ...Until he came into her life... and taught her that perfection wasn't everything."

I'm going to try something just for my amusement (and hopefully that of my regular readers) - "It Should Be A Movie" Trailer Wednesdays.
Wherein I post the script for a trailer of something that should be a live action movie, IMAO. (Or at least, the thought of it as a movie amuses me so very much.)
Comment PLSKTHNX.
So to start this one off...

So a good movie was mismarketed. Again.
Sep. 6th, 2007 07:57 amBalls of Fury.
No. Really.
It's a fairly enjoyable sendup of good/bad martial arts films, of all things. You laugh more often in recognition then because of absurdity, which is always a good sign.
For instance, the hero, Randy Daytona, has to face "The Dragon" in (this being Balls of Fury) a ping pong match. (Held illegally for money.) Across the table from him is a Bruce Lee type with dragon tattoos.
Bruce Lee dude isn't "The Dragon."
A nine year old Chinese girl with ponytails is.
If you've ever seen ping-pong played seriously, then you will laugh in recognition of the truth.
So... it's a good movie. Not for everyone, but it's essentially more true in it's humor than false, which is a good thing.
