Wonderful Bliss Stage game today, at www.toothycat.net/wiki/wiki.pl?BlissStage. We had to use the ToothyChat main channel, which I sincerely hope we WON'T have to do again - I just hope I can get the channel working on a Job Corps computer. Experimenting.
This game takes place in the ruins of Cambridge University's science labs, Cavendish Lab in particular.
Pilots:
<*> Jessica, 13 year old girl who tends to bounce up and down trying to get a look at the console going "Oooh! What does the hypnotic induction coil do, Doctor? And this green light? And this big red button?" (NO! DO NOT PUSH THE BIG RED BUTTON!) Anchored by her Not-A-Boyfriend Thomas (They're like brother and sister! Really!), who really doesn't want her to put herself in this kind of danger but will do everything in his power as an Anchor to keep her safe.
<*> Lloyd, 17, VERY aware that this is his last year awake, and who had the dubious pleasure of seeing the first pilot - his first crush and the elder sister of his CURRENT lover and Anchor, the consequently scarred, bitter and Driven Alice - die horribly in what you know is going to be a horrible accident because the Commander assures you that it's a "routine mission." (Sorry. http://tvtropes.org moment.)
Fun partially because thier Authority Figure, Dr. Eloise Schwartzchild, PhD, bioinformatics, is a TOTAL DITZ who is HILARIOUS to portray. Witness this exchange:
Lloyd and Jessica emerge onto the command deck of the creche, where Dr. Eloise is plotting the projected course of two aliens on a map.
Lloyd: Right then - are they together, or trying to be cute?
Eloise: Er, regarding who? (Beat) ...Oh, you meant the aliens!
Lloyd: YES. You know, the ENTIRE REASON we came here in the FIRST PLACE!
Also had a couple of touching moments between the Anchors and Pilots.
Thomas cradling Jess in her arms, rocking away the immediate effects of her first point of Trauma, and assuring her that her first real combat mission is over and she's safe. (Intimacy Building.)
Lloyd, after being electroshocked out of the dreamworld by Alice punching the abort button, asking "Where would I be without your tender ministrations?" and receiving an admiring smile and a "You'd die." for his troubles. (Much needed Trust Building.)
So, much fun had by all.
Hoping I'll get to talk with Acchan a little more today, too.
School again tomorrow. Sandwich portion of the curriculum, I think.
