Not a direct literal translation: it's meant to be sung to the original melody, so I had to take liberties.
Even with this, what can you expect of me?
How can we break through to the truth?
Trapped as we are, within this small reality...
How will we ever know what the world is, in fact?
I've barely even lived my life!
Alternating between love and rebellion -
The things I've done, the things I'll see,
Will forever be tattoed, deep in my memory!
And now I stand on the abyss' edge,
And now I feel forces unseen pulling me,
And now I can see what was hidden before,
What was hiding right there in full view!
A wider world then I could have ever dreamed;
A more hostile world than it has ever seemed;
A greater purpose than ever has called to me;
What now drives me, what is now my destiny!
So is this strong? Or is this weakness in my heart?
To be willing to take on me this burden?
To be the shield, of those who cannot fight,
To fight to protect, those worthy of my protection and my love?
We are not sheep; we shall not sleep
Upon the same knoll forever,
Oblivious to, the wolves who slew,
Who shall continue to thin out the few of us that still remain...
We are human, and we cannot look back,
And we are human, and we'll press the attack,
And we are human, and our progress can't slack,
Even if our vision is incomplete...
And though I was raised with a veil o'er my eyes,
And though I looked out of the cave in surprise,
Still I took it in and I banished all lies,
And I refuse to go back to my ignorance!
I don't know where the road will take me,
And I don't know the past that lies far behind me,
But I do know that there's only one way to see,
And I'll take it all in in the time I have!
And though I was raised with a veil o'er my eyes,
And though I looked out of the cave in surprise,
Still I took it in and I banished all lies,
And I refuse to go back to my ignorance!
And now I stand on the abyss' edge,
And now I feel forces unseen pulling me,
And now I can see what was hidden before,
What was hiding right there in full view!
A wider world then I could have ever dreamed;
A more hostile world than it has ever seemed;
A greater purpose than ever has called to me;
What now drives me, what is now my destiny!
And in the end, I will learn...
Who I am.
